Vote Greg Holland
Houston County Revenue Commisioner
Houston County Revenue Commissioner Greg Holland has announced he is running for election to continue serving in the role he has held since 2024.
Holland said he has lived in Houston County his entire life, with the exception of time spent serving in the United States Air Force during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He is married to Christy Holland and is the father of four children: Whitney, Dustin, Cameron and Abi.
Holland began his career with the Houston County Revenue Commissioner’s Office in 1995 as a field appraiser, performing property tax appraisals. In 1998, he was promoted to mapper, where he maintained property tax maps and managed parcel data within the county’s GIS system.
In 2011, Holland was promoted to chief appraiser, supervising the reappraisal department and conducting ratio studies, cost index studies and land studies used to establish property tax values.
In August 2024, former Revenue Commissioner Starla Moss retired with two years remaining in her term. Holland said he was appointed to fill the position on Sept. 1, 2024, with Moss’s support, by Kay Ivey.
Holland said his three decades of experience in the office have prepared him to oversee all aspects of the department, including property appraisals, assessments and tax collection in accordance with the Code of Alabama and guidelines set by the Alabama Department of Revenue.
He said he is grateful for his career in public service and is asking voters for their support in the upcoming election.
Holland is seeking election to the office of Houston County Revenue Commissioner on May 19, 2026.
Working to help our disabled veterans
I recently discussed with Representative Paul Lee the proposed legislation concerning property tax exemptions for permanently and totally disabled veterans. This legislation aims to streamline the current process, which, under the Code of Alabama, necessitates an annual renewal of the exemption. The new proposal would allow veterans to apply once, eliminating the need for subsequent annual renewals. Should a veteran acquire a new primary residence, a single application for that new property would be required. Representative Lee confirmed that the bill has successfully passed the House and has been forwarded to the Senate. We anticipate its consideration by the Senate and will provide updates as they become available.
If you know any veterans that have this type of exemption, please pass this update on to them. Ask them to follow my page in order to get further updates.
